Happy Birthday to us!
This month marks one year since we opened our doors for business. It’s been quite the year!
The idea for The Stables emerged during the first lockdown of the 2020 pandemic. It was an idea to banish the weekend boredom and throw ourselves into something we love to do – build and design. We could not have imagined on those weekends the adventure that awaited us.
We opened our doors on St. Patrick’s weekend 2022. Since then we have welcomed over 400 people through our doors. We have been lucky enough to share in people’s exciting travelling stories – those attending local weddings, travelling to walk and cycle along the Barrow Blueway, travelling for work, enjoying a spot of shopping in Kildare Village, attending music gigs and those simply looking for somewhere to escape to.
We’ve been watching with excitement as Waterways Ireland and Kildare County Council continue works of the Barrow Blueway. Most of the surfaces have now been completed and the Blueway is set to open early 2024. The Church of Oak Distillery in Ballykelly continues to progress which will be such a welcome addition to the area with a visitor centre and restaurant.
Speaking of welcome additions to the area – Woodstack Café opened in Moore Abbey Woods late 2022. This beautiful eco setting is the ideal spot to enjoy the beauty of Moore Abbey Woods and catch up over a coffee and a sweet treat. If you’re lucky enough, you might even happen upon one of their traditional music afternoons. Wishing Dee and Dave every success in this exciting new venture!
Our own new venture is progressing well! The new development at Market Square (formally Gahan’s Tavern) has been evolving slowly.
We have stripped the old buildings and began the exciting process of rebuilding the new structure. This building will be home to our new restaurant & café and 13 new bedrooms allowing more capacity for Stay Barrow Blueway to grow
Separately we will soon begin construction of our ‘pods’ – Self contained apartments perfect for those travelling along the Barrow Blueway and looking for a comfortable place to rest and rejuvenate.
We’re busy over the coming months with bookings so if you’re thinking of taking a short break to explore South Kildare this summer get in early!
